Commitment to students amazes and inspires

What does commitment to students look like? In a recent article from CBC News, a high school teacher follows up on a promise made 20 years in the past, to the inspiration of his former students. Although it may not be a long term writing project like this one, language educators for peace find many ways of connecting deeply with learners beyond the classroom. What ideas do you have?
